martin luther king jr

  • Question:-What factors enabled Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement to enjoy the success that they di?
I am doing an essay on MLK and the civil rights movement.
    Here is my essay topic:
What factors enabled Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement to enjoy the success that they did?

I wanted to get other people's input while also looking up my own information.
    Thank you!

Answer:-Their faith was the driving force.

MLK made that very explicit in his speeches, and used Christian scripture to justify the obligation to actively work for human rights.

There were, of course, plenty of people who put in the time and hard work for reasons other than faith, but it's well-documented that the majority of civil rights workers who actively worked for King came from church groups and individual volunteers who felt compelled to live their faith. King derived his authority and leadership from that appeal to faith, speaking at countless churches to recruit people who would be asked to face violence to make a difference.

If you're going to put yourself in harm's way, against dogs, water cannon, nightsticks, KKK, and crowds of violent mouthbreathers, you'll need a powerful motivating force to sustain you and give you a sense of the moral obligation of taking action.

Obviously, most churchgoers did not join the fight, just as most Americans did not, but opponents of civil rights burned down large numbers of churches over those years, and they knew what they were doing.

Imagine where civil rights in the US would be today, without MLK and those church groups.

How has he contributed to society in a positive way?

How has Martin Luther King Jr inspired others to do something good?

Why do you think he deserves to be known as a Global citizen?

Answer:-MLK, Jr. doesn't deserve to be known as a global citizen (whatever that means). If you saw what I saw, and know what I know, about the civil rights riots in Selma and Montgomery, AL, you wouldn't have any respect for the man. He caused horrible things to happen to both blacks and whites; they are the people who suffered, not MLK, Jr.

If anyone deserves global citizenship, it was Mrs. Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat and move to the back of a bus.

Answer:-Both MLK Jr. and Malcom X, not Malcomb X, wanted more rights for African Americans. However, MLK Jr. used more passive means or through getting media attention, boycotting, sitting-in, and setting up marches. Malcolm X, on the other hand, mostly used violence against the whites to get what they want and he formed the group called the Black Panthers.
