  • Question:-Do all Epstein - Barr virus infected people eventually become carriers for the rest of their lives?
My dad has question about the Epstein - Barr virus. Do all Epstein - Barr virus infected people eventually become carriers for the rest of their lives? If not, do they have antibodies against the virus and become immune permanently? What percentage become carriers or create immunity? What are the chances of the positive EB virus developing into nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

    Thanks!

Answer:-Wow – I believe you have actually asked a much more complicated and difficult-to-answer question than you may be aware of.
The short answer is: NPC from EBV infection is multifactorial with a well documented ethnogeographic distribution (even if the exact multi-causes are not known).

If one is born and lives in the West where NPC is quite rare then the risk of NPC relates to tobacco exposure and solid organ transplant (with its required immunosuppressive drugs) and really not at all to EBV.

While rare in most parts of the world, NPC is endemic in southern China, southeast Asia, north Africa, and the artic, The major etiological factors for endemic NPC are genetic susceptibility, early-age exposure to chemical carcinogens (eg, salted fish), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Does that help?
  • Question:-What is Epstein-Barr? How can it really be a disease if everyone has it?
I heard that 95% of people have something called the Epstein-Barr virus. I've read up on it and still don't really understand what it is -- its related to herpes and mono and may cause lymphoma?

What is the deal with this disease? What are the symptoms? Do people have the disease their whole life? Please elucidate the particulars.

Answer:-There are no symptoms unless the immune system weakens and the disease takes over. Doctors order an Epstein-Barr titer when they suspect mononucleosis. I have never heard that we harbor this virus but don't discount it.
  • Question:-What is epstein barr virus in SIMPLE WORDS?
My boyfriend just found out he has epstein barr virus but our College's Health Center told him it is not contagious. Is that true? Does this mean he had mono before? He's been very tired and sick for about 6 weeks and about 7 weeks ago the Health Center thought I had mono.

Answer:-Epstein-Barr is contageous !!! Is is form of the Herpes virus and is the parent virus to a whole host of other viruses in the same family. Here is a link to explain allot more. Best Wishes.

  • Question:-Can onset recurrence of Epstein Barr / Chronic Mono come in waves of symptoms?
I have Epstein Barr / Chronic Mono and have been in remission but am feeling ill again. Is possible for the symptoms to return in sporadic intervals or am I coming down with something else?

Answer:-I have Chronic Mono and sometimes it affects me in a lesser scale than a full flare-up. Of course we can't be sure that mono is the cause but I believe it is. Ever since I got mono 10 years ago I seem to get sicker quicker and more than other people do - I know this because I work in a small room with 8 people and illness always spreads through our team (fun, right!?)

However, you might be getting something else so if you are getting something with runny nose or chest congestion you should go to the doctor. They can look in your nose and throat to see what's going on better than we can at home. And, if you work or go to school, it's good to get a doctor visit documented in case you need to take a leave of absence.

I hope you feel better soon!
  • Question:-How to get an E-mail Address of Theo Epstein?
I'm a college student looking to get career advice on how to become a successful General Manager in baseball. Does anyone know Mr. Epstein's e-mail adress?

Answer:-You could ask about emailing the team either by calling (877) REDSOX9 or sending a message through this link...
  • Question:-What are the symptoms of Epstein Barr Virus?
My doctor just told me I have Epstein Barr virus. What symptoms can I expect?

Answer:-Extreme tiredness, and feelings of depression. It's a long, hard road, but there is an end to it. Feel better soon xx
  • Question:-Is there a connection between Epstein-Barr Virus and Fibromyalgia and where can I find information?
I was diagnosed with EBV 10 years ago and got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Depression 5 yrs ago-is there a connection and if so where can I obtain information.

    If anyone can help-Thank You!

    Answer:-Is there a connection? No.

Here's one reason why. EBV only lasts in the body for no more than 2 years and that's in severe cases. Most people only have it for about 6 months.

There's no way you could've had it 5 years ago muchless now. Once the body overcomes EBV - or any virus - it builds antibodies to protect itself. You are not at risk for contracting it again.

Initially it was believed that EBV was connected somehow to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but they are two completely different illnesses. The bottom line is that EBV is really just an expanded version of mono - they are both herpes viruses.

That's a good place to learn more about Fibromyalgia. It is *not* a form of arthritis, just a relative. I'd love to elaborate but I've got to be a good answer fairy and keep it movin. Ask a specialist if you have further questions.

    Best wishes.
  • Question:-How likely is it that Theo Epstein goes to Chicago to be the new GM for the Chicago Cubs?
In percents, what do you think the odds realistically are and why?

Answer:-I used to think all Yankees fans were scumbags, but after viewing some of the gems that Eric clown has posted I'm now convinced that they're just brain-dead.

To answer the question, while I don't have much confidence in Tom Rickett's ability to evaluate GM candidates, Epstein would be the man to turn the franchise around quickly. He'd have the payroll flexibility that Hendry sacrificed for fading pseudo-stars and he has the ability to evaluate talent and negotiate contracts that Hendry lacked.
I think the Cubs chances of bringing Theo to the North Side are slightly better than there shot at signing Pujols, about 60-40. If they get Epstein, their chances of signing Pujols increase.
  • Question:-Can epstein barr virus cause mouth sores?
I have epstein barr virus and have been getting a lot of mouth sores (canker sores) lately but i dont have herpes.

Answer:-My husband has many medical issues and anyone could give you advice. Some helpful. Others teasing, jeering, making fun. And just plain mean. This is not something to laugh at. I think this is something that you should see a doctor.
  • Question:-What if Brian Epstein never decided to wander into the Cavern to see The Beatles?
Or what if John and Paul never met!? Those little things can have a big impact on the future.
